"The Allure " of Midwest Amphicar
The enjoyment and passion of a new build.
I have done lots of back to stock restorations and the idea of a custom is just plain fun.
Mods done so far.
Enlarge rear wheel openings
Install raised lip custom quarters and rockers.
Install tow hitch
Modify steering wheel
Upgrade engine to a bored out 1300 with Weber carb and ac pump.
Hubs and drums machined to accept new cool guy rims
To do list includes:
High back custom made bucket seats
Modified dash with gauges and stereo upgrades
Electric top-(If possible)
After a few false starts the actual build started. It
is amazing how much time is consumed building a car or boat. Torque Fest is a
great gathering of "traditional" hot rods and customs. They did not like my rims
because they are too new. I was able to sneek in via vendor camping. Then I
moved into main parking.
One of the magazines was doing some photo shoots. She
saw the mermaid and liked it. So they took a lot of shots with the Amphicar.
Than back home with a stop in Morrison Illinois after
crossing the Mississippi.
