Blue 64 page two

Left side. Close up of marking, measuring, then fitting and trimming. After
parts are welded in I coated with acid etch primer, though not shown also a coat
of epoxy. Last two pics of quarter patch partially installed. Not perfect but
getting better. I am trying to show the lack of distortion from welding. By
using small tack welds and just plain going slow lots of problems can be
alleviated. There still will be filler. But it will be thin and on top of nice
clean steel. Seam will get short strand fiberglass first.

Battery trays and drop offs. All it takes is time and practice. Goal is
to make repair look like it never happened. Just measure, cut, shrink, and roll.
Then weld in. Time to get car up and over.

After
jack point is cut off, then rust can be cut out. Patch is butt welded in. After
car is upside down, I weld bottom seam of rear quarters. Last pic is of
defective bumper half. Chrome shop will repair.
Black
hull bottom. After sand blasting weld areas, recoating acid etch primer then a
few coats of two part epoxy. I coated jack points before welding also. Now car
is right side up and final body work can now take place! Yea!

Even with careful welding and hammering fillers and primers must be applied.
Weld seams had short strand fiberglass filler applied over sand blasted metal.
Automotive grade filler was used and blocked smooth. Urethane two part primer is
blocked (sanded). This stage fills in lows and gets rid of high spots. This is
were straight looking panels come from. After that a sealer then paint.

Tunnel edge was messed up. Probably an axle broke and banged around. A new ring
was made. Including the ridge to help hold boot. Welded in. Inside of hull
painted with epoxy.

I paint engine areas mostly black with top edge in body matching color.

The new trans. Cleaning parts. You can not install dirty parts on a new trans.

So after adding filler and sanding. Then it is time for primer. A light coat of
flat black. Then sand and sand and sand. Then prime and do it again.
Remember the blue engine? Soon to be black with copper colored valve cover

Wire
harness repair. Ugly with dirt and over spray. I soaked the end in paint
stripper. Then rinsed off. Old brass connectors become brittle. I cut off,
replace and solder then heat shrink tubing on.
